Botanical name - Melia azedarach
Description -
. Medium-sized tree with dark grey longitudinally fun-owed bark. Leaves bi or tripinnate. Flowers lilac, fragrant, in panicles. Drupe ellipsoid.
Chemical_Constituents-
Roots contain flavone glycoside apigenin 5-O-galactoside. Stem bark contains limonoid glycoside. Leaves give kaempferol-3-L-rhamno-D-glycoside and rutin. Fruits contain melianone and melianol. Bark contains kuline and triterpenoids kulactone, kulolactone and kulinone. Leaves contain alkaloid. Fruit contains melianoninol, melianol, melianone, meliondiol, vanillin and vanillic acid, bakayanin, alkaloid azaridine; seeds contain limonoid glycoside, drying oil.
Uses -
Leaf juice anthelmintic, diuretic, emmenagogue. Gum used in spleen enlargement, infusion of bark in ascariasis. Fruits considered tonic They are deobstment. resolvent, alexifarmic, anthelmintic, antilithic, diuretis and emmenagogue. It is useful also in skin diseases.. It is cultivated all over India
